FIUF incontra Tomas Eriksson, Presidente IFF

La Federazione, insieme a Floorballmania, fa due chiacchiere con il Presidente della Federazione Internazionale Tomas Eriksson.

Signor Presidente, grazie per averci dato l'opportunità di tenere questa conversazione con il "comandante in capo" del floorball internazionale! Speriamo che la situazione del Covid19 non influisca sulla sua vita e sul tuo lavoro, e innazitutto le inviamo i saluti di tutti gli appassionati di floorball italiani. Passiamo ora alle domande.

Lei è Presidente dell'International Floorball Federation (IFF) dal 1996. Cosa è cambiato in  questi quasi 25 anni di attività?

Abbiamo attraversato diversi periodi di sviluppo. Nel 1996 fino al 2008 siamo cresciuti da 16 a 47 Associazioni, e lavoravamo per il riconoscimento (da arte del CIO, ed anche da altri enti come i World Games e NOC) e abbiamo per questo motivo cercato di rinforzare l'organizzazione della IFF.

Nel 1996 abbiamo trasferito il quartier generale IFF a Stoccolma, con un primo dipendente.

Nel 2005 il Segretario Generale era un impiegato a tempo pieno, e abbiamo spostato il quartier generale IFF in Finlandia e Helsinki, e abbiamo istituito un ufficio professionale con più dipendenti. Nel 2000 abbiamo ottenuto il riconoscimento da GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federation) e nel 2008 abbiamo ottenuto il riconoscimento provvisorio del CIO.

Nella fase successiva, diciamo dal 2009 fino al 2020, abbiamo ottenuto il pieno riconoscimento del CIO (nel 2011) e avevamo come obiettivi l'adesione agli eventi sportivi multipli. Siamo cresciuti da 47 a 74 Associazioni.

Nel 2013 siamo diventati membri di IWGA (i World Games) e abbiamo partecipato ai World Games 2017 con enorme successo in Polonia, e aspettiamo ora trepidanti la prossima edizione nel 2022 negli Stati Uniti, a Birmingham, in Alabama. Siamo stati anche accettati ad altri importanti eventi multi-sport come i SEAGAMES (South East Asia Games) per la prima volta come demo nel 2013, e ora nel 2021 il Floorball è in programma per i giochi asiatici indoor e di arti marziali a Bangkok, in Thailandia.

Signor Presidente, IFF ha quasi 5000 club, oltre 350.000 giocatori tesserati e oltre 3 milioni di praticanti dilettanti, è riconosciuto dal CIO e ha partecipato ai World Games. Quando pensa che il floorball sarà presente ai Giochi Olimpici?

L'IFF sta ora lavorando insieme a tutte le entità che si occupano del Floorball, ovvero le 74 associazioni associate, gli atleti, i giocatori, i funzionari e i partner, per scrivere la nostra strategia dal 2021 al 2032. Dobbiamo puntare tutto sulla crescita. Una grande domanda nella strategia fino al 2032 è: quanto è importante l'adesione ai Giochi olimpici?

Credo che sia importante, ma dobbiamo fare un passo alla volta e quindi entrare a far parte dei Giochi Continentali prima, come gli European Games, gli Asian Games, gli African Games e i Pan American Games, per primi, e poi inevitabilmente ci uniremo anche ai Giochi Olimpici. Gli YOG (Youth Olympic Games) sono forse ancora più importanti come un passo prima delle Olimpiadi.

Se ci arriveremo prima del 2032, non posso dirlo con certezza, ma ci stiamo lavorando sodo!

La FIUF, guidata dal suo Presidente Giorgio Rambaldi, sta cercando di aumentare la sua visibilità, anche attraverso il sito web Floorballmaniatv, e attraverso altre piattaforme e media. La Federazione italiana sta crescendo anche in termini numerici che organizzativi. Cosa ne pensi del floorball italiano e del lavoro svolto negli ultimi anni?

Il Presidente Rambaldi e il suo team stanno facendo un ottimo lavoro, sia nella promozione di Floorball sia nella partecipazione attiva al Floorball Internazionale. Ad esempio l'Italia ha organizzato con successo una serie di eventi IFF, come le Qualifiche ai Mondiali.

Inoltre, dai miei amici italiani all'interno del CIO, GAISF e ARISF ricevo le informazioni che il Floorball sta diventando molto più conosciuto e popolare in Italia. È positivo che ci siano più Club in tutta Italia, come anche lavorare per entrare in sempre più stretto contatto con il Comitato Olimpico Italiano (CONI).

IFF sta lavorando alla sua strategia e pensiamo che presto ci saranno alcune novità che potrebbero in qualche modo cambiare il modo di giocare a floorball. Quali pensa che saranno i cambiamenti più importanti?

Credo che - giusto per citare alcuni degli elementi che saranno sviluppati nella strategia futura fino al 2032 - tra le cose più importanti ci sono la definizione delle nostre priorità chiave, il modo di lavorare sulla consapevolezza e la visibilità del nostro sport, ed anche al come esso viene presentato, e a come sono costruiti i Mondiali, a livello di tempo di gioco, formato, e giocatori in campo. Importante è anche come supportare i nostri 74 paesi membri, capendo in quali settori hanno bisogno di aiuto e, soprattutto, come ridurre il gap tra i paesi più sviluppati e quelli che sono ancora in via di sviluppo e crescita. Abbiamo bisogno di più paesi in diversi gruppi che lottano per le medaglie nei Mondiali.

Quanto sono importanti gli eventi multisport nella promozione del floorball? Secondo te quali saranno i prossimi paesi a far parte della famiglia del floorball mondiale?

Gli eventi Multi Sports sono molto importanti, perché è durante questi eventi, come i World Games e gli Asian Indoor e Martial Arts Games, che possiamo mostrare floorball a tutti i Comitati Olimpici Nazionali, e mostrare tutti i vantaggi che reca con sé. I giochi asiatici e quelli europei credo siano i prossimi importanti su cui lavorare.

Come opera l'IFF sotto il profilo della disabilità, e quali saranno i prossimi passi in questo senso? Special Olympics e power/wheel chair hockey stanno migliorando la loro collaborazione con IFF, in che modo?

L'IFF è affiliato a Special Olympics international e nel 2013 abbiamo avuto in Corea 8 squadre, nel 2017 in Austria avevamo oltre 40 squadre provenienti da oltre 30 paesi, ed eravamo già lo sport più grande delle Olimpiadi speciali, quindi questi sono numeri impressionanti ed è un elemento molto importante.

Sono anche dell'opinione che, al fine di diventare uno sport riconosciuto all'interno dell'IPC (International Paralympic Committee), è importante che tutte le 74 Associazioni membri dell'IFF continuino a lavorare con, ad esempio, il floorball su sedia a rotelle in un modo continuativo, come fanno già molti paesi, e quindi la cooperazione con IPC diventerà più forte sia a livello internazionale che a livello nazionale, e questo sarà un vantaggio per IFF e IPC.

In alcuni paesi la collaborazione SO e IPC è già pienamente integrata tra l'associazione nazionale floorball e i comitati paralimpici nazionali.

In che modo il progetto GoGirls promuove la "il floorball rosa" e il "women empowerment" nelle attività?
Che cosa pensa del "floorball mixed" (come si gioca in Italia, e anche in Francia ad esempio)?

Le ambasciatrici GoGirls e l'uguaglianza lavorano e lavorano per una migliore inclusione, cosa vitale, perché abbiamo bisogno di più giocatori e leader volontari e non possiamo escludere le donne in nessun modo, specialmente oggi.

Bisogna lavorare tanto sia a livello IFF che a livello nazionale per includere di più le donne, perché in alcuni paesi, anche in quelli grandi, ancora troppi pochi giocatori sono donne. Penso che la più grande possibilità di successo sia quella di promuovere il fatto che nel floorball mettiamo sullo stesso piano donne e uomini, accelerando così il processo di sviluppo del floorball in generale.

L'uguaglianza e l'inclusione sono fattori chiave per progresso e sviluppo rapidi e continui.

ENGLISH VERSION

Mr President, thank you for giving us the opportunity to have this talk with the world floorball "commander in chief". We hope covid19 is not affecting your life and work, and we send you the greetings from all Italian floorball fans.

You are President of the International Floorball Federation (IFF) since 1996. What has changed in almost 25 years?

We have passed through different periods of development. In 1996 until 2008 we grew from 16 to 47 member associations, and we were seeking recognition (from IOC and others like World Games and NOC) and we built up the IFF organization, in 1996 we moved IFF HQ to Stockholm, with one employee.

In 2005 the Secretary General was a fulltime employee, and we moved IFF HQ to Finland and Helsinki, and set up a professional office with more employees. In 2000 we got recognition by GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federation), and in 2008 we got IOC provisional recognition.

In the next phase, in 2009 until 2020, we got in 2011 full IOC recognition, and we had as objectives to join Multi Sports Events. We grew from 47 to 74 member associations.

In 2013 we became a member of IWGA (The World Games) and were on the 2017 World Games with huge success in Poland, and are on the next edition in 2022 in USA, Birmingham Alabama. We have also been accepted to other vital Multi Sports Events such as the SEAGAMES (South East Asia Games) first time as demo in 2013, and now in 2021 Floorball is on the program of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mr President, IFF has almost 5000 clubs, more than 350,000 licensed players and over 3 million amateur practitioners, is recognized by the CIO and has participated in the Word Games. When do you think floorball will be present at the Olympic games?

IFF is now together with all stakeholders of Floorball, that is the 74 member associations, the athletes, players, officials and partners, rewriting our Strategy from 2021 until 2032. We have to fill up the growth pockets, that is where we are weak. One big question in the strategy until 2032 how important is the joining of the Olympic Games?

I believe it is important, but we need to take one step at a tme, and hence joining continental Games, such as The European Games, the Asian Games, African Games and Pan American Games come first, and then we will inevitably also join the OG. The YOG (Youth OG) are maybe even more important as a step before the OG.

If we then will be able to join the OG before 2032 I cannot tell, but we are working hard on it!

FIUF, headed by its President Giorgio Rambaldi, is trying hard to increase visibility, also through the website Floorballmaniatv, and trhough other platforms and media.  Also the Italian Federation is growing, both in numbers and on the organizative side. What do you think of the Italian floorball and the work that has been done in the last years?

President Rambaldi and team are doing an excellent job, both in promoting Floorball and taking active part in international Floorball, for example Italy has successfully staged a number of IFF events such as qualifications of WFC.

I also get from my Italian friends within the IOC and GAISF and ARISF that Floorball is getting much more known and popular in Italy. It is good that there are more clubs all over Italy is important, and also working closely with Italian Olympic Committee CONI.

IFF is working on its strategy and we think that soon there will be some news which to some extent could change the way we play floorball. Which ones do you think will be the most important changes?

I believe the definition of our Key priorities, such as how to work on awareness and visibility, and how our sport is presented, how is the WFC built up, with the playing time and how many formats, players on the field, to mention a few things will be developed in the future strategy until 2032. 

Import is also how to support our 74 member countries, in what fields do you need services, and a major one how to close the gab between more developed countries and the countries that are still developing and growing. We need more countries in different clusters fighting for medals on the WFC.

How much important are the multisport events in promoting floorball? In your opinion which one will be the next countries to join the world floorball family?

Multi Sports events are very important, because it is during these events, such as World Games, and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, where we can showcase Floorball to all the National Olympic Committees, and show all the benefits with Floorball. Asian Games and European Games I believe are next in line and important.

How is working IFF under the disability issue, and which will be the next steps? 
Special Olympics and power/wheelchair hockey are improving their collaboration with IFF, in which ways?

IFF is affiliated with International Special Olympics and we had in 2013 in Korea 8 teams, in 2017 in Austria we had over 40 teams from over 30 countries, and we were already the biggest sport within Special Olympics, so this is huge and important.

I am also of the opinion that in order to become a recognized sport within the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) it is important that all 74 member associations of IFF continue to work with for example wheelchair Floorball in a very good way which many countries do, and hence co- operation with IPC will grow stronger both on international as well as national level, and this will be a win- win for IFF and IPC.

In some countries SO and IPC collaboration is already fully integrated between national Floorball association and national Paralympic committees.

How is going the GoGirls project to promote the "pink floorball" and the "women empowerment" in floorball activities?  What do you thing about the "mixed floorball" (as is played in Italy, and also France for example)?

GoGirls and equality work and working for better inclusion is vital, because we need more players and voluntary leaders, and cannot exclude women in ways which are the fact today.

We need on IFF and national levels include women more, because in some countries, also the big countries, far too few players are women. I think the biggest chance for success is promoting Floorball that we treat women and men the same, will speed up the development process for Floorball in general.

So equality and inclusion are key factors for continued speedy progress and development.
